CTi's Industrial SPE Cables - Built & Ready for IEC 63171-7
2026.03.30

Driven by the collaboration between the “SPE System Alliance” and the “SPE Industrial Partner Network”, we are thrilled to the standardization and deployment of SPE connectors in accordance with IEC 63171-7 are progressing, supporting next-generation industrial Ethernet infrastructure.
Why Choose IEC 63171-7?
The IEC 63171-7 standard supports factory automation by enabling devices to communicate through a unified and standardized Ethernet interface. With this approach, industrial equipment can be connected more easily within the same network structure, improving system flexibility and efficiency.
Beyond industrial environments, building systems such as lighting, security access can also benefit from smaller cabling requirements and straightforward network connectivity, making installation and maintenance more efficient.
What is the status?
IEC 63171-7 will define IP20, M8, M12, and M12 Hybrid connector interfaces. The IP20, M8, and M12 connector interfaces are currently under development and are expected to be finalized in Q2 2026. Meanwhile, the M12 Hybrid connector is already available on the market.
What are the benefits for IEC 63171-7 hybrid?
IEC 63171-7 hybrid connectors integrate Single Pair Ethernet (SPE) data transmission and power delivery into a single interface, allowing one compact connector to handle high-speed communication and power supply while reducing the number of cables and components in industrial systems.
Their compact design helps save space and weight in automation equipment and field devices, while the IEC 63171-7 standard also ensures interoperability between devices from different manufacturers, making the solution suitable for IIoT and sensor applications from control cabinets to field installations.
What CTi can offer for IEC 63171-7 hybrid?
Although IEC 63171-7 has not yet been officially published, the related cable standard IEC 61156 has already been defined. In anticipation of the upcoming standard, we have proactively developed the Hybrid M12 SPE cable, integrating these standards within an industrial M12 housing.
This solution supports even higher power levels—up to 400W (2×) @ 60V—compared to the M8 Hybrid SPE. The concept is based on adding additional power wires alongside the SPE pair, enabling both data and high-power transmission in a compact, standardized connector.
Key Capabilities & Highlights:
• High-Speed Data: Up to 1 Gbps bandwidth for real-time edge communication.
• Power Delivery: Supports 60V DC low-voltage configurations (up to 400W 2x)
• Cabling Efficiency: Replaces separate data and power lines with one hybrid cable, cutting installation costs and hardware footprint.
• Ruggedized for Harsh Fields: IP67-rated housing ensures vibration, dust, and water resistance—perfect for robotic arms, servo drives, and IIoT sensor network
